Chappell Roan vows to quit singing if fame 'gets too dangerous'

Chappell Roan has said she will quit her career if fame "gets too dangerous."

The singer has admitted she's struggling to cope with the pressures of fame and doesn't want it to jeopardise her mental health.

In an interview with The Face, she told how she's "scrambling to try to feel healthy", adding that she wants to ensure she is well enough to have a long career.

"I feel ambitious about making this sustainable. That's my biggest goal right now. My brain is like: 'quit right now, take next year off,'" she said.

She accused the music industry of encouraging artists to work all hours. "This industry and artistry f**king thrive on mental illness, burnout, overworking yourself, overextending yourself, not sleeping. You get bigger the more unhealthy you are. Isn't that so f**ked up? "

In the interview, she recalled a scary encounter with a fan where she was yelled at for not signing autographs at an airport.

"I know they're not fans. I said no (I wouldn't sign an autograph). I was like, 'I don't sign anything at the airport, I'm sorry.' (One of them) follows me to the TSA line, starts yelling at me and everyone just turns and looks. He's like: 'You should really humble yourself. Do you know where you are right now? Don't forget where you came from.' I'm just like: 'What the f**k is going on?' I told myself, 'if this ever gets dangerous, I might quit'. It's dangerous now, and I'm still going. But that part is not what I signed up for."

The 26-year-old won the Best New Artist award at the MTV Video Music Awards for her debut album, The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess.
