Chappell Roan reveals Lorde offered her advice on navigating fame

Chappell Roan has revealed Lorde once sent her a list of advice for helping her to deal with fame.

In recent months, the Pink Pony Club singer - real name Kayleigh Amstutz - has been open about her desire to set boundaries with fans to protect her privacy and mental health amid her rise to stardom.

And in an interview for The Face published on Monday, Chappell recalled how she once messaged Royals hitmaker Lorde, born Ella Yelich-O'Connor, from a bathroom in an airport after a particularly scary incident.

"She sent me a list of things I should do (in that situation)," she explained. "Literally wrote down eight things she wished someone would have told her when she was going through it. And she went through f**king hell. She was a baby!"

Chappell went on to compare the harassment she has experienced to an "abusive ex-husband".

"I feel like fame is just abusive. The vibe of this - stalking, talking s**t online, (people who) won't leave you alone, yelling at you in public - is the vibe of an abusive ex-husband. That's what it feels like. I didn't know it would feel this bad," the 26-year-old continued.

Elsewhere in the conversation, Chappell noted that she was surprised to hear from the likes of Lady Gaga and Charli XCX when she first broke out on the music scene.

"I was like, 'Mmm, this isn't that big. Everyone's so dramatic!'" she remembered. "They were immediately, immediately supportive... It's been so amazing, because I'm very scared and confused."

Earlier this month, Chappell won her first big industry prize when she took home Best New Artist at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
