Dolly Parton pays tribute to 'great friend' Kris Kristofferson

Dolly Parton has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Kris Kristofferson.

On Sunday, Kristofferson's family announced he had died "peacefully" at his home in Maui, Hawaii the previous day. The singer-actor was 88.

Following the sad news, Parton took to Instagram to honour her friend and collaborator.

"What a great loss. What a great writer. What a great actor. What a great friend. I will always love you, Dolly," she commented.

Parton and Kristofferson released a compilation album alongside Willie Nelson and Brenda Lee titled The Winning Hand in 1982 and also performed songs like From Here to the Moon and Back and Put It Off Until Tomorrow together.

Elsewhere, a number of music stars honoured Kristofferson with messages on X.

"What a gentleman, kind soul, and a lover of words. I am so glad I got to meet him and be around him. One of my favorite people. Rest in peace, Kris," wrote Reba McEntire, while LeAnn Rimes posted, "An epic human with the biggest heart. You will be so, so missed. rest easy, my friend."

And Melissa Etheridge commented, "Loved this man, his talent, his mind and his beautiful heart. Journey well, my friend."

Meanwhile, country singer-songwriter Travis Tritt shared photos of him filming the 1999 Western movie Outlaw Justice alongside Kristofferson.

"Sad to hear of Kris Kristofferson's passing. He was an inspiration to me and I was fortunate to get to know him on the set of Outlaw Justice that we filmed in Spain in 1998. My heartfelt condolences go out to Kris's wife Lisa and all of his family, friends and fans," he stated.

Kristofferson is survived by his wife Lisa Meyers and their five children, as well as his three children from previous marriages.
