NewsNovember, 1 Young Thug released from jail after guilty pleaYoung Thug has been released from jail after pleading guilty to a string of charges. The Grammy-winning rapper was released from prison on Thursday after pleading guilty to gang, drug and gun charges, marking the end of the longest criminal trial in Georgia history. The 33-year-old, real name Jeffery Williams, has spent more than 900 days in jail since he was arrested in Georgia in May 2022 and charged with racketeering and gang activity. He was later hit with three counts of violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, possession of a firearm while committing a felony and possession of a machine gun. At the time of his arrest, it was alleged that the rap label Williams founded, Young Stoner Life (YSL) Records, was a front for an organised crime ring responsible for "75 to 80% of violent crime" in the state capital, Atlanta. He was sentenced on Thursday to time served and 15 years' probation, and placed under house arrest. Speaking to the court, the Go Crazy rapper insisted that he takes "full responsibility" for his crimes. "I take full responsibility for my crimes, for my charges," he said. "To really everybody that has got something to do with this situation, I want to say sorry." The Georgia-born artist went on to describe himself as a "good guy with a good heart". As part of the deal, Williams pleaded no contest to gang-related counts and guilty to three drug charges and two gun charges. The musician was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service, banned from contacting gang members and required to remain in the Atlanta area for the first 10 years of his 15-year probation, except under special circumstances.
