Liza Minnelli grateful to be home for Christmas after years on the road

Liza Minnelli feels grateful to be home for Christmas after missing so many festivities while on tour.

The 78-year-old star is finally able to spend Christmas at home, after years of being away from her loved ones during the festive season.

Liza, who is working on her memoir and a television show about her life, revealed that being in one place for Christmas is the ultimate luxury.

"Holidays are always spent with family and loved ones. Finally!" she told People magazine. "Today, I have that luxury. For years, I lived on the road and was travelling for most of them... I missed so much. That doesn't happen anymore."

Like many of us, she'll be listening to some festive tunes over the holidays - but for the Academy Award winner, some of them have personal meaning.

"My favourite Christmas carol is my mother's version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," the Cabaret star revealed, referencing her mother Judy Garland, who died in 1969.

Her director dad Vincente Minnelli, who died in 1986, also plays a big part in her current Christmas traditions.

"Mama got the song rewritten and Papa directed the film (Meet Me In St. Louis)," she said. "It's a family tradition that makes us all laugh and cry."
