NewsNovember, 7 Megan Thee Stallion reflects on Broadway debut
Megan Thee Stallion has spoken about what her time in Moulin Rouge! The Musical meant to her. The rapper took to the Broadway stage for the first time in March, playing the emcee and Zidler, the owner of the Moulin Rouge club. Looking back on the run in an interview with Marie Claire, she called it "one of the best experiences, as a performer, in my life". Even so, she said she went into the production feeling nervous and had not expected the physical toll of eight shows a week. "I don't think I was aware of how much I was going to be putting my body through," she admitted. She went on to praise the rest of the company, noting that theatre performers work every day except Mondays and still come in happy and upbeat. "I stopped complaining," she said. Only a week into what was meant to be an eight-week run, Megan was taken to hospital during a performance. She explained that she had not wanted to let anyone down and did not realise at the time how depleted she was. "I thought I was having a stroke," she recalled. She said she was not getting enough oxygen to her brain, her hands and face had frozen, and while she tried to tell everyone she did not feel okay, they thought she was simply dehydrated. Despite the scare, the Hot Girl Summer artist was back on stage two days later. She remained with the show for another month before wrapping up her run two weeks earlier than originally planned.
