NewsNovember, 5 Elton John and CMAT share new Step Into Christmas
Elton John has recorded a new take on his 1973 holiday favourite Step Into Christmas, and he made it with CMAT. The Irish singer, whose real name is Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, brings her own character to the track. Elton explained that he had been a fan from the moment he first heard her music and watched her videos, praising her personality and her sharp sense of humour. He went on to say that rock and roll, country and Americana sit at the core of what she does, and that the two of them are kindred spirits in many ways. That, he added, is exactly why the idea of working together on the song excited him so much, and he thinks she has done a wonderful job. The original has long been a seasonal fixture and climbs back into the charts each December, reaching number seven on the U.K. singles chart last year. This new interpretation is this year's Amazon Music Original Christmas song and now joins the contest for the Christmas number one. The pair dropped hints before the announcement. CMAT dressed as Elton for a party and shared it on Instagram, while he posted a clip of a Christmas tree crowned with a red-headed doll, asking whether anyone could guess who he was stepping into Christmas with this year. In her own statement, the Take A Sexy Picture Of Me singer said hearing Elton's music always carries her back to being seven years old in the back of her mam's car. Making sense of that feeling alongside the reality of actually working with him has been confusing, she admitted, but also the greatest joy of her life. Christmas, she said, is her favourite thing in the world, perhaps second only to Elton John himself. She invited everyone to step into Christmas with them and make their yuletide dreams come true. The new Step Into Christmas is available now, exclusively on Amazon Music.
