NewsNovember, 3 Fontaines D.C. Top Charts in Eight Countries
Fontaines D.C. have hit a new career high with their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber. Out on 16th October through XL Recordings, the record has made a huge impression worldwide, going straight to No. 1 in eight countries: the UK, Ireland, Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal and Luxembourg. In the UK it also logged the third-biggest opening week on the Official Albums Chart so far this year. The success carries well past those top spots. Dopamine Chamber landed at No. 2 in six other major markets – Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, New Zealand and Austria – and reached No. 3 in France, No. 4 in Denmark and No. 4 in Poland. In the US, the band earned their best Billboard 200 position to date by entering at No. 14, a big jump from the No. 97 peak of 2024's Romance. They also topped both the U.S. Independent Albums and Vinyl Albums charts. The group – Grian Chatten, Carlos O’Connell, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan and Tom Coll – have kept changing since their 2019 debut Dogrel. After A Hero’s Death, the chart-topping Skinty Fia and the vibrant Romance, the new album is their boldest artistic leap yet. Made with producer James Ford in London, the English countryside and Palermo – where Chatten cut vocals in a makeshift booth built from mattresses – the 11-track record includes a notable guest turn, with Rosalía appearing on Where Is Gone?. Reviews have been glowing across the board. The Guardian praised the band's dramatic growth and called them the best band of their generation, while NME described them as the definitive band of the decade. The Times and Rolling Stone also welcomed the record's adventurous songwriting and wider sound. The band are in the middle of a major world tour. They play Berlin tonight, then continue through Scandinavia, Europe, India, Japan, Australia and the Americas, with big stadium dates lined up for the summer through 2027. Photo credit: Ewen Spencer
