Barbra Streisand mourns manager Martin Erlichman at 97

Barbra Streisand has shared a warm tribute to Martin Erlichman, the manager who guided her career for more than sixty years.

Erlichman's family announced on Sunday that he had passed away the day before from "age-related causes" at the age of 97. In their statement, relatives described him as "a giant of Hollywood" and, closer to home, "a deeply devoted and loving father, husband, grandfather and rock." They added that the loss is felt deeply, but that they are endlessly proud of the life he lived and the mark he left behind.

Streisand was quick to respond to the news. Erlichman had spotted her talent when she was just 19 and went on to look after her career for over six decades.

Writing on Instagram, the 84-year-old said that even though Marty had enjoyed a long and full life, nothing prepares you for losing someone so dear. She admitted she had truly believed he would live forever and saw him as indestructible, always at her side through everything. Remarkably, the two never signed a contract. She said Marty can never be replaced and that she will remain forever grateful for his friendship, loyalty and unwavering support.

Over the years, Erlichman handled all of Streisand's contracts and produced both her 2000 Millennium Concert and her 2006–2007 world tour. He was also an executive producer on her television specials, among them the 1994 programme Barbra: The Concert, which brought him an Emmy Award as well as a Peabody Award.

His client list reached well beyond music. He also represented comedian Joan Rivers, boxer George Foreman and actor Chevy Chase.

Erlichman leaves behind his wife, Miko Mayama Erlichman, their son and four grandchildren.
