NewsOctober, 30 Jennifer Lopez on New Music and Her Empty Nest
Jennifer Lopez has explained what lies behind her latest song, describing it as a track about the “duality of grief.” The song, Proof of Love, will appear as a bonus track on the vinyl edition of her 2011 album Love?, due out in November. Speaking to Variety, the singer said the tune pairs a cheerful dance sound with heavier feelings. She explained that pain and grief when someone is gone are themselves proof of love, and that she wanted to turn that idea into something happy rather than devastating – a marker instead of a source of sorrow. Lopez said the new material grew out of her 18-year-old twins, Max and Emme, heading off to college. With them gone, she described facing a completely different life and wondering what to do with the space and time left behind. Her answer was to return to the studio. She said she has written some of the best songs of her career and is excited about them, calling the record a very happy era album filled with joyous, beautiful songs that still carry a hint of tears. Love? first came out in 2011. In November, Lopez will reissue the album together with a concert film.
