Olivia Rodrigo Speaks Out on Cornell Assault Case

Olivia Rodrigo has publicly criticised Cornell University's response to an alleged sexual assault case.

Last month, a former student identified only as Jane Doe filed a civil lawsuit in New York. She claims she was drugged, assaulted and gang-raped by seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity in 2024.

The fraternity chapter was suspended after the allegations, but no one reported to be involved has faced criminal charges.

On Sunday, Rodrigo posted a statement on Instagram Stories expressing her concerns.

"Shame on Cornell and on every institution who protects rapists and abusers over women," she wrote.

The Drop dead singer went on to say she supports the woman who filed the case.

"I stand with Jane Doe. Her bravery reverberates across the country and the crimes against her will not go unpunished," the 23-year-old added. "What she lived through matters, and so does the failure of those who could have intervened but chose not to. She deserves answers, consequences, and lasting change."

Rodrigo is among several celebrities who have spoken out about the case, including Florence Pugh, Josh Gad, Rebel Wilson and Mariska Hargitay.

After public outcry over the civil lawsuit, New York Governor Kathy Hochul requested an independent review of Cornell's response. Attorney General Letitia James has also been appointed as a special prosecutor.
