NewsOctober, 4 Taylor Swift Lands Historic Chart Double
Taylor Swift has done it again – she's topped both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart at the same time. Her album The Life Of A Showgirl is back at Number 1, while her new single Patient Zero goes straight in at the top of the singles chart. The album's return to the summit follows the arrival of its expanded The Encore edition, and it lands exactly one year after the record first came out. This is its fifth week at Number 1, though those weeks haven't been consecutive. Patient Zero is now Swift's eighth UK Number 1 single and her third of 2026, after Opalite and I Knew It, I Knew You. No other artist has managed three UK Number 1 singles so far this year. It also means The Life Of A Showgirl is her first album to spawn three UK Number 1 singles. Two more new tracks, Cleveland and Babylon, debuted at Numbers 3 and 4 respectively. Swift has now pulled off the Official Chart Double with five different album-and-single combinations, and she has done so every year since 2022. Over the course of her career she has notched up 14 UK Number 1 albums, more than any other female artist in chart history. Further down the singles chart, Jamie Miller's Babydoll climbs to a new peak at Number 6. Madonna picks up three Top 40 entries from CONFESSIONS II, the highest being Love Sensation, her collaboration with Kylie Minogue, at Number 8. Meanwhile, Oasis are back in the Top 30 at Number 29 with Don’t Look Back In Anger, helped along by all the buzz around their current tour. Over on the albums chart, UK indie outfit Keo arrive at Number 2 with their debut Put A Smile On For Me. The record moved 23,500 chart units, making them the first UK male band since Blossoms in 2016 to pass 20,000 first-week units with a debut. Nothing But Thieves keep their run going with a fourth consecutive Top 5 album, Stray Dogs, at Number 3, and Soft Cell land their 11th Top 40 album, Danceteria, at Number 26.
