Kenny Chesney pays tribute to dog Poncho

Kenny Chesney is grieving the loss of his dog. On Wednesday, the country singer shared photos of Poncho on social media and told fans that his pet had died.

In his caption, Chesney wrote that Poncho passed away at 5.15 that morning and that his heart was broken, though it was also full because he knew the dog had given him everything he had. He recalled the many roads they travelled, the life they lived and the sunsets they watched together.

The She's Got It All singer also explained how Poncho came into his life at exactly the right moment. Fifteen years ago, a friend arrived at his doorstep and told him he needed to learn to attach to something, and that was the day Poncho became part of his world. Chesney reflected on the idea that a dog comes into your life when you need it most – not just any dog, but one meant specifically for you, there to help you, heal you and teach you how to accept unconditional love and return it.

He closed his message by saying his friend had been right: he needed Poncho, and he thanked him. Their connection and bond, he added, will last forever, and he will miss him. "Goodbye Poncho. You were one heaven of a dog," he wrote.

Chesney is currently promoting his 21st studio album, Silver Sands Marina, and preparing for his 2027 The Original Vibe Room Tour across the US.
