NewsOctober, 14 Michael Jackson Super Bowl documentary in the works
A documentary exploring Michael Jackson's legendary 1993 Super Bowl Halftime Show is officially in the works. Hulu and ESPN revealed on Tuesday that a film called Spectacle: Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl is now in production. Bao Nguyen is directing and producing, and the documentary is scheduled to arrive in February 2027. A synopsis describes how, in January 1993, the worlds of sport, entertainment and broadcasting were changed forever when Michael Jackson performed at the Rose Bowl during the Super Bowl XXVII Halftime Show. The film promises to take viewers behind the scenes of the Halftime Show and trace the path to and through this groundbreaking event. Producers say the project will feature never-before-seen footage of Michael and his team, along with analysis of how the Thriller star turned the performance into what they call the single biggest spectacle in pop culture. It remains unknown whether any members of the Jackson family will take part. John Branca, the attorney who has been executor of Michael's estate since the singer died at 50 in June 2009, is among the listed producers. The King of Pop headlined the Super Bowl XXVII Halftime Show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. His set featured a medley of Jam, Billie Jean and Black or White, and closed with We Are the World, performed with a choir of more than 3,000 children from the Los Angeles area, and Heal the World. Interest in the Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough singer's life and career has surged again recently thanks to the April release of the film Michael. That musical biographical drama, which stars Michael's nephew Jaafar Jackson in the lead role, is the fourth highest-grossing movie of the year so far.
