Paul McCartney Says He Recalls Being Born

Paul McCartney Says He Recalls Being Born

Paul McCartney has said he can recall details of his own birth.

Speaking on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast on Tuesday, the Beatles legend was asked by host Amy Poehler to share one of his earliest memories. He replied that he thinks he can actually remember being born.

"These things, you don't know if you've made it up. But I have this feeling that I kind of remember being born," he said. "I was born in a place in Liverpool called Walton Hospital, which was a real old Victorian thing; I think it had been something else before a hospital."

McCartney, whose song Blackbird is among his best known, went on to describe some features of the hospital. He stressed, though, that he cannot be sure whether the memories are genuine or something he imagined later.

"So, I kind of remember white tiles, very sort of hygienic white tiles and chrome instruments and a clanging, because I was a forceps birth. They had to pull me out," the 84-year-old added. "I don't know if it's true."

Later in the chat, he revealed which artist he feels too anxious to approach about a collaboration. "I always think Bob Dylan. But I'm too nervous to ring him up. 'Bob? It's Paul,'" he said with a smile, as Poehler joked that she cannot even imagine the 85-year-old music legend owning a phone.

Last week, McCartney released a special edition of his twentieth solo studio album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. It features three previously unreleased songs.
