Harry Styles has opened up about the way a former girlfriend reshaped his life, saying the change was a big one. Speaking alongside Thom Yorke in a joint interview for Rolling Stone, the One Direction alum remembered feeling uneasy about being spotted in public as he was getting used to fame. He described how hotel stays during his band days often felt confining, and how being at home left him with the sense that going out wasn't safe for him. A past relationship, he went on, showed him that some ordinary life was still possible when he wasn't working. He recalled a girlfriend who was very outgoing and was planning to visit London, and his worry that if they simply stayed inside his house for three days she would think he was crazy. So they walked everywhere, and it struck him that being outside was fine. That shift in perspective, he said, broke the old pattern and has stayed with him, because it is how you remain connected to the world. Styles has previously been linked to Taylor Swift, Kendall Jenner, Emily Atack, Caroline Flack and Olivia Wilde, and is now with Zoe Kravitz, with the two rumoured to be engaged. Later in the conversation, the 32-year-old singer said time outdoors has long helped his creativity. He mentioned reading that walking gives an artist a particular perspective, since you are at ground level and notice things you would miss if you drove everywhere.
