Blossoms Claim Fifth UK Number One Album

Blossoms are celebrating today after their new studio album, Songs From The Wedding Cake, went straight to the top of the Official Albums Chart. For the Stockport five-piece, it is a fifth Official Number 1 album, following their self-titled 2016 debut, Foolish Loving Spaces (2020), Ribbon Around The Bomb (2022) and Gary (2024).

They had to see off some serious competition to get there. The Beatles had to settle for Number 2, with their 1965 record Rubber Soul back in the upper reaches of the chart more than sixty years after it first came out.

In a statement to Official Charts, the band said they were thrilled to still be scoring Number 1 albums a decade after their first, and thanked everyone who had bought, played or recommended the record. They also promised to see fans on tour.

Songs From The Wedding Cake also tops the Official Record Store Chart. Over on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, it is Rubber Soul that comes out on top, selling more copies on wax than any other release in the past week.

Further down the chart, former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr lands his second solo Top 5 album as The Age Of Everything enters at Number 5, after 2022's Fever Dreams Pts 1-4. South London seven-piece Fat Dog score their highest-charting album so far, with Cancel Me (I'm Tired) arriving at Number 13. Drake is back in the Top 20 at Number 20 with HABIBTI, which returns after an expanded edition was released.

The rest of the top five is made up of Olivia Rodrigo at Number 3 with You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In, while Michael Jackson's The Essential stays put at Number 4.
