NewsOctober, 10 Sombr Opens Up About Fame and Anxiety
Sombr has admitted that his growing fame has made going out in public difficult, as he now deals with anxiety attacks when strangers approach him. Speaking to ELLE magazine, the singer – whose real name is Shane Boose – described his mixed feelings about celebrity life. He recalled playing to a crowd of 10,000 one night and then waking up in his own bedroom in LA, calling the contrast between the highs and lows a mindf**k. These days he mostly stays out of public view, because being recognised makes him panic and worry that he failed to perform or behave well enough for the people who come up to him. Sombr also shared that he had recently gone through a deep depression. Even so, the 21-year-old songwriter said he accepts what comes with the job. He spoke about having seen darker moments than ever before and having had some of his darkest thoughts about his life, reaching a point where he could only see the past and present rather than a future. Still, he insisted he would never complain about the spotlight, since he could walk away from it if he wanted to. As he put it, he is simply sombre. His debut studio album, I Barely Know Her, arrived in 2025. Since then he has drawn praise from Taylor Swift, who has spoken highly of him more than once and even called him the future of the industry. Sombr remembered the first time he heard her mention his name on the radio, joking that he wondered whether it was AI.
