Nivea in remission after leukaemia battle

Nivea has shared some good news with her fans: she is in remission after her fight with leukaemia.

The R&B singer, whose full name is Nivea B. Hamilton, revealed in July that she had been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) at the beginning of the year.

Appearing on The Tamron Hall Show this week, she said a series of treatments had brought her into remission. "I'm very grateful," she told the host, visibly moved.

She also admitted she "couldn't believe" how quickly her recovery had come about.

Even so, the Don't Mess with My Man star made clear that some symptoms are still part of daily life. "It's been an adjustment, like the symptoms," the 44-year-old said. "I'm tired a lot. I have other issues. I'm bleeding. I have fibroids. It's a long little list, but I'm still on the better side than most. I'm not complaining... I'm not complaining at all."

Nivea took a moment to thank Dr. Colin Vale and his team for looking after her.

"I couldn't believe it because this happened to me this year, only a few months ago," she said with a smile. "And Dr. Vale, even though explaining to me the success rate of the drug, we still didn't know. We have to monitor, (as) everybody's different, how your body reacts to the medications."

During the same conversation, she mentioned that she is studying to become an audio engineer and is taking vocal lessons while she recovers.

"I've never had vocal training all these years. Yes. I was, you know, self-taught. And so I said, 'Let me learn some tricks and tools to be better,'" added the mother of four.
