Zara Larsson Rules Out Max Martin Album

Zara Larsson Rules Out Max Martin Album

Zara Larsson isn't interested in making an album with producer Max Martin.

On Wednesday's episode of the Las Culturistas podcast, hosts Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang asked the Swedish singer whether she had thought about teaming up with her countryman.

She made it clear that such a project isn't in her plans.

"I don't think so," she said, adding that she has enormous respect for the veteran producer. "That is someone to look up to for me... obviously he's the best songwriter in the world and he just keeps getting number ones. But I don't know if that way of working is for me."

The "Midnight Sun" star explained that she would rather work again with artists like MNEK, Margo XS and Helena Gao.

"That's where the magic comes from, not to try and look for it in Max Martin," the 28-year-old went on. "I think me and Max could make an amazing song or album, but I know he will affect me in a way which would make me be a little bit smaller. I respect him so much. I know he has these huge songs and has so much knowledge that I would feel like whatever he says goes."

Martin has built a reputation working with pop acts such as Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd.

The 55-year-old has five Grammy Awards to his name and entered the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017.

Later in the chat, Larsson said she could imagine going into politics in her home country of Sweden at the age of 50.

"Like a singing (Zohran) Mamdani," the "Never Forget You" singer said with a smile, referring to the Mayor of New York City. "Someone who is just for the people and who just does good things."
