NewsDecember, 30 Sabrina Carpenter explains why she was convinced Espresso would flopSabrina Carpenter has explained why she was convinced her hit single Espresso would be a flop. The song became the most-streamed song of the year on Spotify, attracting over 1.6 billion streams, topped charts around the world and was also crowned BBC Radio 1's song of the year. But the American singer, 25, was sure that her song would not take off - as she was convinced she released it at the wrong time of year. She told The Hollywood Reporter, "I remember deciding to put this song out in the beginning of summer and thinking espresso, coffee is kind of more of a fall beverage." She continued, "I really didn't know if it would connect, but the sentiment and the sound of the song and the confidence that it kind of just carries along with it was something that I really believed in. "So I had literally no idea that anyone would like it, but I liked it, and that was kind of all that mattered to me in that moment." Teasing she could have more music for fans to enjoy soon, the star added, "I'm always sort of thinking one year ahead consistently. So, I sort of started the thought process of what would happen after (2024 album) Short n' Sweet as I was making it, and that's all I'll say for now."
