NewsNovember, 20 Doja Cat responds to fans criticising new tour
Doja Cat has hit back at fans who criticised the opening night of her new Ma Vie World Tour. The U.S. rapper faced backlash after the tour kicked off in Auckland, New Zealand, on Tuesday, with some fans expressing disappointment over the lack of outfit changes and pared-back visuals compared to her more theatrical Scarlet Tour in 2023. In a post on X, one fan questioned how the tour could have "no storyline, no visuals, no outfit changes", prompting a fiery response from the Grammy winner. "I make music for people who enjoy music. I'm not a Broadway act," the Paint the Town Red hitmaker, 30, replied. In a separate post, Doja wrote, "And I'm not your f**king costume monkey, I move at my own pace and break my f**king back out there every night so you can keep your bulls**t opinion to yourself. You are not the artist you are the watcher." When another user asked, "no outfit changes this era too...?", she snapped back, "Who f**king cares I'm singing my MUSIC for the people who want to hear me SING. You're not even at the f**king show." Not all reactions were negative, however. Some fans praised the stripped-back performance, with one social media user describing her "dance break" as "breathtaking". During the concert on Tuesday, Doja performed several of her biggest hits, including Agora Hills, Paint the Town Red and Say So. The Ma Vie World Tour supports her fifth studio album, Vie, released in September and featuring tracks such as Cards, Jealous Type and Couples Therapy.
