Japanese woman under investigation for kissing Jin without consent

A Japanese woman has been summoned for kissing BTS star Jin without consent.

A female fan has been cited by South Korean police for allegedly planting a kiss on the BTS star during a 2024 fan event, authorities confirmed to the Associated Press on Friday.

The incident occurred during Jin's free hug event, which was held in Seoul, South Korea, in June to celebrate the K-pop singer's completion of his mandatory 18-month military service and BTS' 11th anniversary.

The event saw the 32-year-old singer hug 1,000 fans who had won a raffle.

Videos circulating after the event showed Jin looking visibly uncomfortable after the woman, believed to be in her 50s, gave him a firm kiss on the cheek after he leaned in to hug her.

According to police at Seoul's Songpa station, the woman, who has not been identified to protect her privacy, has since been summoned on charges of sexual harassment in a public place after a BTS fan filed a complaint against her.

However, she is reportedly refusing to appear for questioning.

While the woman refused to speak to police about the incident, she wrote about it in an online blog post.

"My lips touched his neck. His skin was so soft," she wrote, according to Yonhap news agency.

Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, may be called in to provide a statement.

He has not publicly addressed the incident.
