NewsFebruary, 27 Katy Perry and Gayle King to fly to space on all-female spaceflight![]() Katy Perry and Gayle King will fly into space on an all-female mission. On Thursday, it was announced that the pop star and broadcast journalist will be part of an all-female crew that will fly into space on a Blue Origin space tourism rocket owned by tech billionaire Jeff Bezos. The crew will also include Bezos' journalist and licensed pilot fiancée Lauren Sánchez, film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe and research scientist Amanda Nguyen. In a statement, Blue Origin said, "(Sánchez) is honored to lead a team of explorers on a mission that will challenge their perspectives of Earth, empower them to share their own stories, and create lasting impact that will inspire generations to come." The mission, which was revealed on CBS Mornings, will be the first all-female flight crew since Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova's spaceflight in 1963. The flight will see Perry and the five other crew members cross the Kármán line, which is 62 miles (100 kilometres) above the Earth's surface and separates the Earth's atmosphere from space. The rocket, which will have no pilot, will launch the capsule containing the women into space for several minutes of weightlessness before parachuting down 15 minutes later. The mission is scheduled to take place this spring from Blue Origin's Launch Site One near Van Horn in the West Texas desert. The upcoming flight will also make King the second network morning show host to travel to space aboard a Blue Origin rocket, following Good Morning America co-anchor Michael Strahan, who was a crew member in December 2021.
