Taylor Swift beats Madonna's record for UK No 1s

Taylor Swift has surpassed Madonna's record as the female artist with the most No 1 albums in the UK.

The news came as her new live album Lover (Live From Paris) became her 13th chart-topper.

It also means Swift equals Elvis Presley as the international artist with the most No 1 LPs.

Still ahead of her are the Rolling Stones with 14, then Robbie Williams and the Beatles, who remain jointly in the top spot with 15.

Martin Talbot, Chief Executive Officer of Official Charts mused: "If we thought Taylor Swift would peak in 2024, with her domination of the charts during the summer, we couldn't have been more wrong. What an amazing achievement to surpass the Albums Chart record of Madonna, such a huge music icon."

Lover (Live From Paris) was originally released in limited quantities for Valentine's Day two years ago, when it languished at number 90, but the new heart-shaped double vinyl release took it all the way to the top. It's the biggest opening week for an album this year.

Featuring performances from the studio album of the same name, Lover (Live from Paris) is Swift's fourth live album.

The achievement is all the more notable because Lover (Live from Paris) has never been released on streaming services as a whole album.
