Chappell Roan responds to criticism over Grammys speech

Chappell Roan has responded to criticism of her Grammy Awards speech and pledged to donate to struggling artists.

The Pink Pony Club received a standing ovation on Sunday evening as she slammed record labels for failing to support dropped musicians during her acceptance speech for Best New Artist.

While many stars have spoken out to praise Chappell, music executive Jeff Rabhan argued she was no longer a struggling artist and claimed she was "disingenuous" and "wildly misinformed".

Chappell has now taken to social media to clap back at Rabhan's criticism and called upon him to prove his support for musicians.

"Mr Rabhan, I love how in the article you said 'put your money where your mouth is' - genius!" she posted on Instagram Stories. "Let's link and build together and see if you can do the same."

She then challenged Rabhan to match a donation she has made to support those in need.

"@jeffrabham wanna match me $25k to donate to struggling dropped artists?" she wrote.

In another post, Chappell added: "Will keep everyone updated on the much awaited @jeffrabham response! And I will show receipts of the donation!"

The 26-year-old star, who enjoyed global success with her breakout hit Good Luck, Babe!, continued to show her support for other artists by listing some of her favourite lesser known musicians including Hemlocke Springs, Sarah Kinsley and Baby Storme.

"In the meantime, here are some artists that deserve more love and a bigger platform," she signed off.

During her acceptance speech on Sunday, Chappell revealed she had promised to challenge the "most powerful people in music" if she ever won a Grammy Award.

She urged record labels to treat artists as "valuable employees" and asked, "We got you, but do you got us?", before calling for "liveable wages" and healthcare for her fellow performers.
