John Legend and Chrissy Teigen considering leaving California following wildfire crisis

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are thinking about moving back to New York following the devastating wildfires in California.

The All of Me singer explained to The Wall Street Journal that he and his wife have given the move more consideration since they were forced to evacuate their home and live in a hotel with their children and pets for a week amid the wildfires in January.

"Chrissy and I have always considered returning to New York, where we once lived. We probably will, once our youngest ones grow up a bit," he said, referring to their youngest children, Esti and Wren. "Every time nature shows its wrath, we wonder if it's time to head back East. Who knows."

John, who also shares Luna, eight, and Miles, six, with Chrissy, recalled how they returned home from a holiday on 7 January and saw the "flames and billowing smoke from the Palisades fire".

He continued, "When the Sunset fire began to expand on Jan. 9, the danger felt too close for comfort. That night, my wife and I gathered our four kids, four dogs and bearded dragon and drove south to a hotel in Carlsbad. We didn't return until the following week."

While their home survived the fires, John feels like the "threat still looms" and described the emergency as "a collective trauma that shook everyone".

John and Chrissy, who got married in 2013, sold their home in Manhattan in 2022.

The 46-year-old singer previously told the publication that he misses New York, which will "always be (his) favourite city", but his work commitments require him to live in Los Angeles.
