NewsNovember, 28 Jessie J crying 'happy ugly proud tears' as she releases first album in seven years
Jessie J cried "happy ugly proud tears" after releasing her new album Don't Tease Me with a Good Time into the world on Friday. The Price Tag hitmaker told her Instagram followers that she was feeling emotional and proud of herself for finally finishing the album after working on it on and off during the challenging time in her life. "I started writing this album 6 years ago AND IT'S OUT NOWWWWWWWW!!! DON'T TEASE ME WITH A GOOD TIME!!!" she wrote alongside a montage of behind-the-scenes video clips of the making of the album. "What I went and have been through to get to this point, to this moment only I will truly ever know. But that's what I am celebrating in this moment. I didn't quit. Man was I close in moments but I didn't!!! I did it!!! We did it!!! Thank you to everyone who supported making this happen.... I'm sobbing posting this. Like happy ugly proud tears." The 37-year-old, who released her last album, This Christmas Day, in 2018, explained on The Graham Norton Show on Friday that she started working on her new record in 2019 but "then Covid hit and then lots of stuff happened". Jessie was perhaps referring to the birth of her son Sky in May 2023, or the several health setbacks she has suffered in recent years. Most recently, she underwent a mastectomy in June after being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. She needs to have another operation in the future. When asked about her health on the show, the Domino singer shared, "This year has been wild. I am good. I have just recovered from breast cancer, so I am just happy to be here. I love being back." Jessie also performed her recent single H.A.P.P.Y live in the studio on Friday night's episode.
