The Wanted record Comic Relief song

The Wanted are to record this year's Comic Relief single.

The chart-topping quintet - who scored a number one last year with All Time Low - will release their charity track Gold Forever next month.

The boy band follows acts such as Spice Girls, McFly, Westlife and The Saturdays to release the official song for the biennial fundraising event, Red Nose Day.

The song will be out as a digital download on March 13 and in shops the following day.

The group's Max George said: "This song is about a day in your life that you never forget. It's an upbeat, feel-good track and our favourite so far.

"We're really excited to get it out there, and delighted that it is supporting such a great cause."

Bandmate Jay McGuiness said: "We're in a position where we can contribute to Comic Relief. We grew up watching it as kids and to be involved is crazy but an absolute honour."

The band's self-titled debut album went top-five last year.

The Wanted will perform the track on the TV telethon on March 18.

Money raised will go to vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa.
