Theakston joins JLS for charity

Jamie Theakston is to become an honorary member of chart-topping act JLS.

The Heart breakfast show radio host is to join the boy band for a one-off performance later this week to tie in with the station's charity appeal.

Band member Aston Merrygold told Jamie: "I've heard that you wanted to be in the band for a little while now and I've been thinking it's time for a fifth member.

"We'd like you to try a few things out."

The DJ will perform with the quartet on a version of their hit single Beat Again, to be broadcast on Friday's Heart breakfast.

A video of the group's new line-up will be shown on the station's website, heart.co.uk.

Jamie said: "This is a dream come true for me. I'd be perfect for JLS. I've got loads of ideas where we can take the band. We could even change the name. This could be pop history in the making."

The group are appearing on the breakfast show all this week in preparation for the performance, part of the station's Have A Heart Appeal week. Also appearing will be Westlife, Dame Helen Mirren, X Factor winners Alexandra Burke and Matt Cardle, and comedy writer Stephen Merchant. They will be helping to raise money for this year's charity, Children's Hospices UK.

Outfits worn by JLS when they were contestants on the X Factor will be auctioned. Other lots include a trip to see Kylie Minogue play live in New York.

Bids can be made at heart.co.uk.
