Music charity honours Tinie Tempah

Tinie Tempah and classical music star Alfie Boe have been honoured by a music charity, it has been announced.

The British rapper and Alfie, who will star in Les Miserables with Matt Lucas this summer, have been chosen to win Nordoff Robbins O2 Silver Clef Awards in July.

Nordoff Robbins uses music to improve the quality of life of people with a wide range of conditions including dementia and terminal illness.

Tinie will get the best newcomer accolade, while tenor Alfie will receive a classical award.

Alfie said: "Nordoff Robbins is an incredible charity and I am honoured and humbled to be receiving the Classical Award at the Silver Clefs. Nordoff Robbins' life-changing work has the power to help so many people and I'm a great believer in the healing power of music."

The awards ceremony on July 1 is a fundraising event, and another seven gongs are set to be presented. There will also be an auction of music memorabilia.

David Munns, chairman of Nordoff Robbins, said: "Alfie Boe and Tinie Tempah were obvious choices for the Classical and Best Newcomer awards at the Silver Clef Awards.

"Alfie is one of the UK's leading tenors, whose most recent album Bring Him Home is now certified Gold with over 100,000 sales and, Tinie, having secured two number one singles, a number one album and two Brit Awards, is the undisputed breakout star of the last 12 months."

The charity provides more than 45,000 music therapy sessions each year.
