Cheryl joins royal for youth awards

The Prince of Wales is being joined by Cheryl Cole to celebrate young people who have overcome adversity to turn their lives around.

At a glittering awards ceremony the pop star and the Prince will recognise the achievements of those who have battled against challenges like homelessness or drug addiction.

Celebrating Success is the national final of a competition that has combed the country to find those who are thriving after being helped by Charles' charity the Prince's Trust.

The heir to the throne will meet a number of Trust Ambassadors including Cheryl, Dermot O'Leary and Christine Bleakley during the event staged at the Odeon, Leicester Square, in central London.

Cheryl announced last month she is joining forces with the trust by setting up a charitable foundation in aid of the organisation established by Charles in 1976.

It will provide vital funds for the Trust's work in the singer's home town of Newcastle and surrounding areas.

The Girls Aloud star and X Factor judge said she wanted her foundation to help youngsters fulfil their potential.

Cheryl, 27, speaking last month, said: "Too many young people grow up thinking no-one cares and don't believe they can make anything of themselves.

"They have so much potential - but can go off the rails without the right care and support. I want my foundation to help them realise their potential and get their lives on track."
