Nicole knocks Adele off top spot

Nicole Scherzinger has knocked Adele from the number one spot in the singles chart.

Don't Hold Your Breath by the X Factor guest judge and former Pussycat Doll entered the charts at number one, pushing Adele's Someone Like You into the second spot after four weeks at the top, said the Official Charts Company.

Official Comic Relief single Gold Forever by The Wanted went straight to number three after being performed on Red Nose Day's night of fundraising on BBC1 on Friday.

Other new entries included Louder by girl band Parade at number 10 and rapper Snoop Dogg's Sweat at number 16.

The triumph for Scherzinger - girlfriend of Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton - came as Adele's second album 21 notched up an eighth week at the top of the albums chart, with her debut album 19 rising to number two.

Adele became the first living artist since the Beatles to have two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously when Someone Like You leapt up the charts.

In the album charts, The Vaccines' debut album What Did You Expect from the Vaccines? entered the charts at number four, with Michael Ball's Heroes at number 10 and Dundee band The View's Bread and Circuses new at number 14.

New Zealand band The Naked and Famous's debut album Passive Me Aggressive You entered the album charts at number 25, with Endgame by US punk rock band's Rise Against going straight to number 27.
