Sir Paul to marry for third time

Sir Paul McCartney has got engaged to US socialite Nancy Shevell, his girlfriend of nearly four years, his publicist has said.

Stuart Bell said recent media speculation over a proposal is true but declined to give further details on when and how the former Beatle asked the New Yorker to marry him, saying only: "We're all thrilled for him."

The marriage will be Sir Paul's third. His first wife, Linda, died of cancer in 1998 and the musician divorced his second wife, Heather Mills, in 2008 after a separation period.

Sir Paul and Ms Shevell started seeing each other in Long Island's Hamptons area in late 2007.
