Specials turn back clock in Belfast

Ska superstars The Specials brought this year's Belsonic music festival to an end in front of thousands of people.

Ghost Town and Too Much Too Young were among classics which entertained revellers at Belfast's Custom House Square.

The outdoor festival featured nine nights covering a diverse range of musical genre within a relatively small venue.

Saturday's audience comprised mainly late 30s and 40-somethings, many sporting hats and dark glasses in homage to the Specials.

The square appeared full and elbow room was tight as the crowd surged to the front.

The Coventry outfit combined dance-friendly ska with an energy more associated with punk.

They thanked the parents for passing on their love of the music, in a nod to the younger members of the audience.

Their reputation for adopting a social stance was upheld as the band lambasted the London rioters and played a censorial Stop Your Messing Around.

Belsonic has scheduled more dates every year, with genres from rap to dance to rock.
