Weller: Women need to get over it

Paul Weller has said he is fed up of hearing female musicians singing about their break-ups.

The 53-year-old musician - known as the Modfather - complained to Q magazine he thought they needed to "get over it."

Weller said: "I was watching a couple of female artists recently and their whole albums were about splitting up with their boyfriends."

He went on: "For f**k's sake, get over it and see what else is going on in the world. Write about God, write about love, write about death, write about war, write about people."

The former frontman of The Jam has been working for 34 years, and said he began working on new material almost as soon as he had released 2010's Mercury nominated album Wake Up The Nation.

Weller gets annoyed by bands who don't work as hard as he does.

He said: "We worked very, very quickly. I don't like to hang about too long.

"I've been disappointed with the number of bands who do something exciting and then you don't hear from them for three years. F**K it, why don't you put out a record every year, man?"
