McCartney watches Harrison biopic

Sir Paul McCartney and his fiancee were among a host of stars at the premiere of Martin Scorcese's new biopic about ex-Beatle George Harrison.

Sir Paul and Nancy Shevell joined Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Ronnie Wood of the Rolling Stones and Monty Python star Michael Palin on the red carpet at the British Film Institute in London.

George Harrison: Living in the Material World was made in collaboration with the guitar legend's widow, Olivia Harrison, and follows his life from his childhood in Liverpool.

Arriving at the venue, Sir Paul told the BBC the event had brought back lots of "fond memories".

He said of Harrison: "He was my little mate on the school bus when he was very little. And we were both very little, mind you. But it does bring back a lot of fond memories. He is a lovely boy and he is sorely missed by us all."

On Friday, Sir Paul and Ms Shevell became legally entitled to marry at Marylebone Town Hall. Their marriage notice was entered with Westminster Council on September 14.

Speaking at the premiere, Olivia Harrison told Sky News: "By a force of nature we (she and Scorcese) were guided together.

"Marty has such a great love of music, I'm really just very fortunate to have him, a great storyteller."

Academy Award-winning director Scorcese spoke of the difficulties in piecing the film together from archive footage and interviews with Sir Paul, Ono and Starr among others.

"It's difficult because you may have a great line of dialogue from one interview when he's got a beard and moustache and you cut to another one and you say 'who was the other guy?' We had to go very slowly on this," he said.
