Flo Rida soars to top of the charts

Flo Rida has knocked Coldplay off the top of the charts with his single Good Feeling.

The American star soared to the top of the charts sending Coldplay, who secured the first number one of 2012 with Paradise, down to number two, the Official Charts Company said.

Taio Cruz went straight in at number three on the singles chart with his new release Troublemaker, while last week's number two Olly Murs dropped to number six with Dance With Me Tonight.

Murs has two singles in the top 20 as he is also sitting in the number 19 slot with his single Heart Skips a Beat featuring Rizzle Kicks.

Meanwhile, Adele returned to the top of the album charts with 21, with last week's number 1 Ed Sheeran moving down to number three with his debut release +.

Bruno Mars was a non-mover at number two in the album chart with his album Doo-Wops & Hooligans.

Adele's return to the top of the album charts makes 21 the longest chart-topping album release in nearly 42 years, the Official Charts Company said.

In December, it was named as the best-selling album of the 21st century having accumulated a massive 3.81 million sales and today it is spending its 19th non-consecutive week at number one since its release just under a year ago.

The record holder is Simon & Garfunkel's 1970 classic Bridge Over Troubled Water, which has amassed 33 non-consecutive weeks in the top spot since its release.

Adele's 21 is already the longest-running number one album for a solo artist in UK chart history, and the sixth longest-running number one album - excluding original soundtracks - overall - a record surpassed only by Simon & Garfunkel and The Beatles' four albums Please Please Me, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, With The Beatles and A Hard Day's Night.
