McCartney unveils cheeky title

Sir Paul McCartney has put an end to speculation about his new album title confirming it will be called Kisses On The Bottom - but pointed out it is not as cheeky as it sounds.

The mainly cover versions album is named after a line from the Fats Waller song I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter, the opening track.

Sir Paul announced the title of the album - his first non-classical work for more than four and a half years - to fans through his website.

There had been some speculation that he would name the release My Valentine, the title of one of the two original songs on the 14-track album, which will come out on February 6. But rumours eventually soon surfaced that it may be called Kisses On The Bottom.

I'm Gonna Sit Right includes the lines: "I'm gonna write words oh so sweet, they're gonna knock me off of my feet. A lot of kisses on the bottom, I'll be glad I got 'em."

Sir Paul has recorded a collection of standards, many of which he recalled from his childhood, including some that he remembered his father playing on the piano.

They include The Inch Worm, It's Only A Paper Moon and Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate The Positive, as well as Bye Bye Blackbird. The musician is famous for his own song Blackbird which appeared on the Beatles' 1968 "white album".

The album artwork is something of a family affair with the photography done by his daughter Mary, while the artwork was conceived by the visual director of daughter Stella's fashion firm, Jonathan Schofield.

Sir Paul recorded the album - a project he thought up 20 years ago - throughout last year at studios in Los Angeles, New York and London.

Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder feature as guest musicians on the new songs My Valentine and Only Our Hearts. Clapton - a friend since the 1960s, who famously played lead guitar on The Beatles song While My Guitar Gently Weeps - also appears on the track Get Yourself Another Fool.
