McCartney 'to play Jubilee concert'

Sir Paul McCartney is set to play at the official concert to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, it has been reported.

The former Beatle is being lined up to open and close the show planned to celebrate the Queen's 60 years on the throne, according to The Sun.

Other names mentioned as possible performers include Sir Tom Jones, Dame Shirley Bassey and boyband JLS.

Sir Paul raised the possibility of getting involved in the Jubilee during an interview last month when he said he "could easily" make an appearance.

The rock legend, who performed at the party in Buckingham Palace for the Golden Jubilee in 2002, said he was a "big fan of the Queen".

He said: "I think she's great and I think she does a great job and people say, 'Ugh, the monarchy' and all that but what are you going to get in return?

"You'll get, like, David Cameron. I mean, much as we may love him, I'm not sure I want him to represent the whole of Britain. Anyway, so if I get asked, I could easily do it."

His latest album, Kisses On The Bottom, named after a line from the Fats Waller song I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter, was released yesterday.

The 14-track album, his first non-classical work for more than four and a half years, is mainly cover versions with just two original songs.
