Brit winners dominate the charts

The artists who won big at the Brit Awards this week also performed well in the album charts, with songstress Adele returning once again to the top spot.

The singer scored two gongs at Tuesday's ceremony following her six-award triumph at the Grammys the week before.

Her album 21, the biggest selling record of 2011, was back at number one, up from three, in its 57th week in the charts. Her earlier album 19 took the seventh slot, up from ninth last week, after spending 154 weeks dominating the rankings, the Official UK Charts Company said.

Brit Awards Critics Choice winner Emeli Sande was knocked from prime position down to number two with her album Our Version Of Events.

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who also scooped two awards on Tuesday, was at number three with his album +, up from five last week.

Controversial artist Lana Del Rey, who won the International Breakthrough prize, took the fourth spot with her offering Born to Die.

The only entry in the top five without a Brit gong was Belgian-Australian musician Gotye, with his album Making Mirrors.

Brit winners and show-openers Coldplay were rewarded for their efforts when their record Mylo Xyloto re-entered the top 10, climbing from 11 to six.

Britpop band Blur, who closed the ceremony with a five-song medley of their hits after scooping the Outstanding Contribution to Music award, re-entered the charts at number 22 with their Best Of album.

In the singles chart, Gotye's song Somebody That I Used To Know, featuring Kimbra, took back the number one slot after slipping to number three last week. Sande held on to second place with her offering Next To Me while DJ Fresh featuring Rita Ora fell from one to three with their hit Hot Right Now.
