Michael pens White Light track

George Michael has revealed that his near-death experience has inspired him to pen a song called White Light.

The star, 48, announced on Twitter that he started to write the track this week for the fans who prayed for his recovery.

He said that he was "finally ready to write about what happened to me in Vienna and how grateful I am to be given another chance to live and breathe".

Michael battled for his life with pneumonia in intensive care in a Vienna hospital late last year.

The former Wham! star said that he had been in the studio and that he wanted to thank those who supported him "the only way I know how, with music".

He revealed: "Yesterday I began to write a song called White Light. It's for all of you, for everyone who prayed for me, for every one of you who has prayed for me, for every person who has stopped me in the streets to ask me how I'm doing, you have made me feel so blessed."

Michael was forced to shelve 14 remaining dates of his Symphonica tour after falling ill.

Last month, he announced that he was donating 1,000 tickets for a rescheduled concert to the medical staff who looked after him.

He has told how doctors at the Vienna hospital "spent three weeks keeping me alive, basically" adding: "I'm incredibly fortunate to be here."
