Sean Paul 'lives out' Belfast dream

Sean Paul has revealed he finally fulfilled his "dream" of performing in Belfast as he performed at MTV Presents Titanic Sounds.

The Jamaican dancehall star, who arrived in Northern Ireland by private jet, took listeners back through the years as he sang hits such as Gimme The Light, Baby Boy and I'm Still In Love With You at the star-studded pop concert ahead of the 100th anniversary of the ship's sinking.

"I had a dream that I would one day perform in Belfast. If you have a dream, hold onto it," he told the 16,000 fans that braved the cold at Queen's Quay, which was staged in front of the new Titanic Belfast museum.

Olly Murs brought the pop spectacular to a rousing close with his chart-topping hit, Heart Skips A Beat, with friends Rizzle Kicks, who had performed earlier.

"It's crazy and exciting. It's a hundred years since the Titanic got built so it's cool," said the X Factor finalist before the show.

Pixie Lott and Katy B also played.

The old dockland slipway where revellers gathered for the music extravaganza witnessed another major event 101 years ago, when thousands congregated to see the Titanic launched into the water for the first time, which sank after striking an iceberg on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic.

The Titanic Sounds gig is among a series of high profile events being staged in the city to mark the enduring legacy of the ship.

While the mood was upbeat, a more sombre tone will be set over the weekend as Belfast commemorates Saturday night's anniversary of the disaster that claimed more than 1,500 lives.

Staged in collaboration with Belfast City Council and Northern Ireland Tourist Board, the gig was filmed and will be broadcast across 153 territories around the world as part of MTV's World Stage series.
