Elton John cancels shows in US

Elton John is cancelling three Las Vegas performances after being hospitalised with a respiratory infection.

Officials with Caesars Entertainment say that the Thursday, Saturday and Sunday performances of "The Million Dollar Piano" are being cancelled.

Show officials say the singer came down with the infection last weekend and was admitted on Wednesday to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre. Doctors have recommended he not perform for a week.

The singer says in a statement that he is sorry he cannot be with his fans.

"The Million Dollar Piano" launched in September for a three-year run and features the singer's classic songs.
