Cheryl: Will encouraged solo career

Cheryl Cole has revealed that she could have become a mum if she hadn't pursued her solo career.

The Call My Name singer admitted that it was her manager Will.i.am, who encouraged her to record a solo album, away from Girls Aloud.

"At the time, I would have had a family. At the time I was still married! But it was actually Will saying to us, 'You know you're going to do a solo record, right?', and I was saying, 'I don't want to, not yet'. And he was like, 'I think you should. You need to'," she told Pop Justice.

Cheryl - whose third album A Million Lights is released on July 18 - admitted the record label took some persuasion.

"Actually, I think the label were a bit dubious at the time when Will suggested it. I think they were like, 'Statistically it doesn't work'. I was married, I was sorted!" she explained.

And the 28-year-old reckons this is her "best" album.

"In my opinion it's the best album out of the three. Whichever way it's received, it's my best work - it's the one I'm happiest with," she said.

"The first album was scary. The odds were against us, being from a girl group anyway - people already had the idea of someone coming from a girl group, statistically. Second album, I was really sick with the malaria. I probably should have given myself a little more time to become well, but I didn't, I wanted to go to the studio."
