Foo Fighters drummer joins CBGB

Taylor Hawkins could be playing Iggy Pop in musical biopic CBGB.

The Foo Fighters drummer is thought to have signed on for the role of the Stooges frontman in Randall Miller's forthcoming film about the famed New York punk club, reported Billboard.

A star-studded cast are already on board for the drama, which has been co-written by Randall and his Bottle Shock writer Jody Savin.

Harry Potter stars Rupert Grint and Alan Rickman are to play Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome and venue owner Hilly Kristal respectively.

Malin Akerman is lined up for Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, while Mickey Sumner is in the running to play Patti Smith and The Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki cast as Television's manager Terry Ork.

CBGB is scheduled to start shooting later this month in Savannah, Georgia, before moving to New York.

Both Randall and Jody are also putting together a biopic about Dennis Wilson, the late solo musician and drummer with The Beach Boys.
