Rufus Wainwright working on movie

Rufus Wainwright has revealed that his life could soon be immortalised in a film.

The American-Canadian musician - the son of folk stars Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle - said he is working on a big-screen musical titled The Great White Way, which is loosely inspired by his own life.

"We're really early in that process. It's loosely based on my life - very, very loose," he told Rolling Stone.

"Perhaps it's more of a kind of mythic Rufus that he's trying to create. It stems from some of my past glories and tragic endings, but it's by no means a biography of me or anything."

Tony award-winning writer Enda Walsh (who also co-wrote Hunger with Steve McQueen) is penning the script.

Rufus, who has been described as the greatest living songwriter by Elton John, has previously opened up about events in his life, including the rise of his fame, coming to terms with his sexuality, being raped as a teenager and his addiction to drugs.
