Cheryl Cole knocked off top spot

Cheryl Cole was knocked off the top of the charts after just one week when Maroon 5 snatched the No 1 spot from her with their new single Payphone.

The track, featuring American rapper Wiz Khalifa, became the band's first UK No 1 single after racking up well over 141,000 sales. It deposed Cheryl's Call My Name a week after the hit by the Girls Aloud singer became the fastest-selling single of the year.

Maroon 5's previous highest charting singles were 2007's Makes Me Wonder and 2011's Moves Like Jagger, which both made it to No 2.

The success of Payphone pushed Cheryl's release down to two in the UK singles chart. She was also denied the top spot in the album chart, where Justin Bieber stormed to the top spot with his new release Believe.

Cheryl's latest album, A Million Lights, trailed in second place behind Justin's third studio album, which sold just over 3,000 more copies, sales figures showed. The sales secured the teen heartthrob his first UK No 1 album.

Elsewhere in the singles chart, the Diamond Jubilee anthem Sing by Gary Barlow and his Commonwealth Band dropped eight places to 11.

The only other new single entry in this week's top 40 was Black Heart by British RnB girl group Stooshe, which entered the chart at No 4.

The Motown-tinged track, which was co-written by former All Saints star Shaznay Lewis, gave the band their second top five single of the year after their debut Love Me featuring Travie McCoy went to No 5 in March, the Official UK Charts Company said.

Katy Perry's track Wide Awake meanwhile soared from No 31 to 12.
