Adele: I don't want to be a celeb

Adele has revealed that despite her massive success in both the UK and the US, she hates the idea of being a celebrity.

The award-winning British singer told NBC's Matt Lauer in an interview for the Today Show: "I just want to make music, I don't want people to talk about me. All I've ever wanted to do was sing."

The Someone Like You star, famous for baring her soul on her records, also admitted she would hate it if one of her ex-boyfriends wrote songs about her.

According to the Daily Mail she told Matt: "I'd be mortified. But also if they wrote songs about me they'd be: 'This song is about Adele.' I've never given any names ever, but everyone's going to know this song's about me."

Adele also said in the interview how some of the biggest names in music had supported her after her vocal cord surgery, including Sir Elton John. She revealed how Elton had called her before her Grammy performance earlier this year - the first time she sang in public following her recovery.

She laughed: "I had no idea who it was and he just started chatting away to me and I passed the phone over to a friend and I was like 'yeah it's Elton'. It still cracks me up. It made me think, 'my God it's another level now'."

The down-to-earth singer said despite being such a familiar face these days, she can still go out unnoticed, and revealed how she had recently managed to walk through London's Trafalgar Square wearing her pyjamas and not be stopped by fans.

She said: "Nobody recognised me. A couple looked round but they were like, 'no, she's in colour and what would she be doing in Trafalgar Square on a Saturday in pyjamas?'."
