Jinder hopes to hit musical heights

Chart hopeful Jinder is hoping to hit the heights as a musical giant - after becoming one of the tallest solo acts to land a record deal.

The singer-songwriter - who has just signed up with Universal Records - is thought to be the loftiest solo star in the UK at 6ft 7ins tall.

He exceeds other big names in the music world such as former Marillion frontman Fish by two inches, and is three inches taller than Jon McClure of Reverend And The Makers.

Jinder, 31, is the same height as blues star Long John Baldry who died in 2005 at the age of 64.

He previously had a deal with Arista records as part of his band The Mercurymen, but their debut album never saw the light of day before they were dropped. He has often thought his colossal height may have hindered the band's success.

"It was a really depressing time for me, and I questioned whether it was my fault. On a number of occasions I'd overheard that my height made me look like a freak," he said.

He has now signed to Universal-owned Mighty Village Records as a solo performer with an album Crumbs Of Comfort already recorded.

Jinder believes the source of his immense size may go way back in his family tree.

"Neither of my parents are particularly tall, so I looked into it. It might be that I am descended from the Native American Sihasapa who lived on the great plains of the western Dakotas," he said. "My great great grandfather fell in love with a woman in the tribe and brought her back to the UK and married her. I think they were known to be a tall race."

His solo single Keep Me In Your Heart is due to be released on September 24.
